Deepa Mittimani

Deepa Mittimani is a self-taught artist. She started her carrier as a chartered accountant and has worked in various organisations as a finance manager. She is a writer and poet and have published two books. On her sabbatical break she explored acrylics and then the journey started to unfold. She says some things can be better expressed in colour. It has that subtle effect of suggesting something and the explanation, conclusion or analysis is left to the viewer.
She is a full time artist, teacher and jewelry designer. She works mainly in acrylics. Deepa is originally from Pune and now residing in Calgary, Canada. Calgary is surrounded by beautiful Canadian Rockies and glaciers and magnificent lakes which give a natural feel to our artificial lives. She tries to search the relation with the nature. This search creates something unique that is called your life's experience. Deepa tries to put her life into the paintings that she creates. And the journey for this search is never ending.
The exposure to a different culture gave her a new dimention to think. She says, we live in the world full of social stigmas. But the unfamilirity of our own surroundings make us alive again. The brain searches for the similarities, and craves for a comfort zone. This search creates something unique that is called your life's experience. Deepa tries to put her life into the paintings that she creates. The journey is never ending.
When not painting, or writing or playing with her polymer clay she can often be found dancing with her daughters or singing aloud while cooking or brainstorming with new ideas to combine all the art forms.
